Ethos Employee Spotlight: Gaurang Khetan

Why did you join Ethos?

I joined Ethos because it was the perfect opportunity in the right industry at the right time. The life insurance industry in the US was outdated and inefficient, leading to poor consumer experiences. Customers had to endure excessive paperwork, bureaucracy, and medical tests to obtain a policy, a process that could take several weeks. Ethos aimed to revolutionize this industry with an efficient process, allowing consumers to secure a policy in minutes and offering a great end-to-end user experience with a broad range of options. I wanted to be part of Ethos’s transformative journey.

What do you love most about Ethos?

I love Ethos — I believe we are well-positioned to achieve great success as a company and make a significant impact on the marketplace. I love the fact that Ethos has exceptional leaders who possess deep industry expertise and a practical mindset, enabling them to make the right decisions in a challenging environment. They are also down-to-earth, genuinely nice people who are great to work with. Additionally, I appreciate that Ethos has managed to maintain high growth rates while achieving significant profitability, showcasing the outstanding execution by everyone in the company.

What makes Ethos different from other companies you’ve worked for?

At Ethos, we take pride in our unique culture. Our employees are trained to be biased for impact, focusing on the most critical problems and making significant progress quickly. This approach allows the company to deliver impressive results with fewer resources and provides rewarding and enriching experiences for employees. We encourage open communication and value data-driven opinions. Decisions are made based on first principles and data, and once made, we all support them. Above all, we prioritize our customers, always choosing what benefits them the most.

What has been your proudest professional moment this year?

There have been several proud moments at Ethos, making it difficult to single out just one. Recently, the teams I led successfully launched several new products, such as Trustage Native and IUL. These were particularly rewarding projects, requiring extensive changes across the tech stack, solving numerous technical challenges, and necessitated strong collaboration between multiple engineering teams, various functions, and our insurance carriers. Additionally, I am proud of successfully expanding the partnerships engineering team to a new site, onboarding and training the new team in the domain, which led to significant and impactful new launches.

Gaurang Khetan joined Ethos in January 2022 as a Director of Engineering and is now a Senior Director.
